Kitchen Decor 101
There is no rule of law that says a kitchen has to have white appliances, yellow walls and café curtains. Mrs. Cleaver is gone and so is Mrs. Brady.
Today’s kitchens can be decorated in many different ways. Colors are new and brilliant and today’s appliances can be purchased in stainless steel, traditional white or retro colors like red. It is all your choice.
There are some very unique cabinets today to perform tasks that we have in the kitchen. A pull out counter can be to contain various electric appliances like the waffle iron, iron, hot plate, hot dog cooker and smaller items.
Today’s kitchen contains counter areas with pull out drawers for dishwashers instead of having to use a regular old front load dishwasher with restricted room. These drawer dishwashers have room for large pots and pans. Also with these, you do not have to run the entire washer just to do a small amount of dishes. You can restrict the washer to one drawer if the load is small.
There are cabinets with other interesting drawers, too. If your cook top is in the center of the kitchen island, where would your oven be? Well, you might find an oven in a large drawer under the counter in its own cabinet. A large rectangle drawer could be a warming drawer or even a simmering drawer.
At the front of today’s kitchen cabinets there may be a place for a wine refrigerator or for a microwave convection oven. You are only limited by your imagination when you are designing your new kitchen.
Since the kitchen is the heart of the home, you will find that people just naturally gather around the large counter. The ability to add pieces that can function other than as kitchen pieces makes the kitchen a hub of all sorts of activity. Make a computer center from one section of cabinets. Some refrigerators even have access points that make it possible for you to monitor your refrigerator’s temperature as well as what is in it with your laptop computer. Mom can plan her menu daily at the computer station and have access to the fridge to see if she has all the items she needs.
Don’t forget to plan for the coffee center in your new kitchen. Today’s home machines make it possible to have your own fresh ground and freshly perked coffee as well as all sorts of lattes and espresso. The home barista can serve her friends and family in style instead of making instant coffee.
Sections of hidden cabinets or appliance garages can cover up the numerous appliances that a family can collect and use. There is no reason to have them sitting out all over the room or taking up space on the counter. With hidden cabinets you only have to push on the corner and a door will pop up to reveal the appliances that you need.
